Reguliersgracht, one of the canal ring's most photographed multi-bridge views, earns that reputation largely because no single spot on a sidewalk shows it off the way the water does. The canal houses lining the Grachtengordel were built facing the water first, loaded and unloaded from the water for centuries, and the ring's own concentric shape, the Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht wrapped one inside the next, only really reads as a shape from a boat moving through it.
